Short Description

Global food companies increasingly require suppliers to report their environmental impact.  Holos enables Canadian producers to explore the impact of agricultural practices on GHG emissions. It simplifies user inputs through ‘scenarios’ that set parameters according to common farm management practices. Algorithms based on a series of principles, assumptions and methodologies calculate reliable estimates of GHG emissions.

Holos is a software tool that can be used to measure changes in GHG emissions resulting from beneficial farm practices. 

Environmental consultants may use Holos to audit and report on crop and animal production systems. Food companies targeting sustainable production strategies may merge farm supply chain data with the Holos platform. GHG emission improvements can be tabulated and reported as part of Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives.

Abstract

Holos is a software tool to estimate and reduce greenhouse gases from farms.  It incorporates Canadian geographical and ecological data in combination with algorithms developed by AAFC research scientists.
Holos uses science-based, peer-reviewed information and formulas to estimate carbon dioxide, nitrous oxide and methane emissions from individual farms.

Comprehensive enough to address both the requirements of farmers as well as the growing needs of global food companies to measure, manage and reduce their supply chain emissions.
